So, what are peptides?
Peptides are part of the “rebuild” function of what your skin does by allowing messages to “get into” the cell.
Think of it like opening a door so that good ingredients can enter the cell doorway – once inside, your cell uses these good ingredients as food and does all the jobs skin is supposed to do – including rebuilding collagen so you have less lines and less sag 🙂
So how do Peptides do this?
Your skin is made up mostly of collagen—a protein comprised of long segments of amino acids.
Collagen is the building block of healthy-looking skin.
It provides a foundation for beautiful skin, making it smooth, tight, and supple in appearance.
Skin that lacks collagen tends to appear thin and more wrinkled. Take a look below.
However, as you get older, your collagen within your skin will eventually break down and this is also sped up by lifestyle habits of daily stress, hormonal changes, a diet of too much sugars & breakdown of your protective barrier on top of your skin from incorrect use of products, or using skincare that is too harsh and drying.
When it breaks down, short segments of amino acids are formed. These tiny proteins are peptides. Your cells use them to send around the message that collagen has deteriorated and needs help. This process of your cells communicating with each other is known as messaging or cell communication.
This is how your body actively supports many natural appearance-enhancing processes. In this case, it’s how your skin maintains its beauty and keeps your complexion looking healthy, vibrant and youthful.
What we Know About Peptides —The Basics
With age, your cell-communication network weakens and your skin cells will not produce enough collagen to replace what is being lost. Lifestyle stresses can also add to this decline (as mentioned above) and the result is skin that looks less more lined, dull and starts to sag. Your skin may even appear prematurely older than it should.
So what can you do?
Peptides are in many skincare brands – so look for a brand that is non-toxic (as this will keep you healthy from the inside – out = chemicals build up in the body and sit in organs and fatty tissue causing inflammation and disease – even as simple as eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea), is plant-based so your skin can USE the ingredients to repair and rebuild making healthy skin AND skincare must be able to deliver those ingredients to where they work the best….ie – not on the surface (so coconut oil is OUT) and where regeneration takes place – which is at the BOTTOM of the Epidermis (this is where NEW healthy skin cells are made and impacts how gorgeous your skin will be on the surface).
Without those 3 things – you are wasting your precious time and money “hoping” your skincare is working.
With technology changing and new discoveries all the time – I have now “landed” a new range with NRF2 activation – which means less sagging as less oxidative stress within the skin itself – meaning IT DOESN’T BREAK DOWN PREMATURELY.
